Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed title, Shadows, has been officially revealed, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Set in Sengoku-era Japan, the game features two protagonists: Naoe, a shinobi born in Iga and the fictional daughter of real-life ninja Fujibayashi Nagato, and Yasuke, a retainer to Oda Nobunaga and the first AC main character based on a real person.
The development team behind Shadows aims to offer players two distinct experiences through the dual protagonists. Naoe and Yasuke bring different perspectives on feudal Japan, with Yasuke representing an immigrant of high status and Naoe portraying a village-born woman. This diversity in characters is expected to make Shadows a truly interesting and engaging game.
While fans have long been clamoring for an AC game set in feudal Japan, creative director Alex Hutchinson expressed concerns about the setting feeling too familiar. However, the inclusion of Naoe and Yasuke as protagonists adds a fresh and unique twist to the game. Naoe’s presence as a female lead also brings a new dynamic to the stealth genre, which is often dominated by male protagonists.
Despite some reservations about the choice of dual protagonists, many are excited to see how Naoe and Yasuke will elevate the Assassin’s Creed series to new heights. With the rich historical backdrop of feudal Japan and the intriguing characters at the forefront, Shadows promises to be a captivating and immersive gaming experience for fans of the franchise.
