Will Smith challenges public’s memory with release of new ‘Bad Boys’ film

Reading Time: < 1 minute

After a two-year hiatus from the big screen following a controversial incident at the Oscars, Will Smith is back in action with the release of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” this weekend. The film, which cost $100 million to make, marks Smith’s return to the spotlight after his altercation with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Smith’s comeback, industry insiders are optimistic about the film’s potential success. “Ride or Die” is expected to open at No. 1 in domestic theaters, with box office forecasts predicting sales of around $55 million in its opening weekend.

The movie, which also stars Martin Lawrence, follows two Miami police officers as they investigate the suspicious death of their former captain. Early reviews have been positive, with two-thirds of critics recommending the film and audience reviews even higher.

At a recent screening in New York, attendees cheered at appropriate times, showing support for Smith’s return to the big screen. With little direct competition until next month, industry experts believe there is pent-up demand for a fun action movie like “Ride or Die.”

As Smith looks to reignite his career with this latest release, all eyes are on the box office numbers to see if audiences are ready to welcome him back with open arms. Will “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” be the hit that propels Smith back to the top of the Hollywood A-list? Only time will tell.
