In a thrilling match at the 2024 CAA Championship, the William & Mary men’s tennis team faced off against top seed and No. 52-ranked UNCW, ultimately falling short with a final score of 4-0 in favor of UNCW.
Despite the loss, the Tribe showcased their talent and determination throughout the match. In doubles, graduate student Satchel Benn and freshman Oliver Hague continued their impressive streak by winning their 14th consecutive match at No. 2. The duo defeated their opponents with a score of 7-5, bringing their overall record to 19-5.
In singles, graduate students Konstantinos Raptis and Bill Duo, along with Hague, all showed strong performances before the match was decided. Raptis and Duo won their first set tiebreakers, while Hague claimed the opening set with a score of 7-5. Hague finished his rookie season with an impressive 24 singles wins, ranking eighth all-time among W&M rookies.
Despite their best efforts, UNCW secured victories at the No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 positions, ultimately advancing to the CAA Championship match.
The match was a display of skill and sportsmanship from both teams, with each player giving their all on the court. While William & Mary may not have come out on top this time, their performance at the championship was a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
