Winchester Skaters Attempt World Record for Largest Skateboard Lesson
In an exciting attempt to set a new Guinness World Record, professional skateboarder and coach Geoff Else gathered 360 pupils from Kings’ School in Winchester for what could be the world’s largest ever skateboard lesson.
The current record, set in 2012 in California with 311 participants, is now believed to have been surpassed by this ambitious group of skaters. Geoff Else, who co-founded Team Rubicon to teach skateboarding across the UK, organized the event as a unique way to showcase the sport and bring recognition to Winchester.
Each skater in the lesson had to have their own board and helmet, and perform at least six different skills in a 30-minute session to meet Guinness World Record requirements. Alastair Birch, head of PE at Kings’ School, expressed his excitement for the opportunity, stating that the entire school community was thrilled to be part of the record attempt.
Despite some participants having no prior skateboarding experience, Birch believes that events like this will inspire more children to take up the sport, especially with skateboarding set to make its second appearance in the Olympics in Paris this summer.
As they await confirmation from Guinness World Record judges, the team from Winchester can be proud of their efforts in attempting to break this impressive record and put their city on the map for skateboarding enthusiasts worldwide.
