Winfield’s Sinclair and Waybright Claim Victory in Class AA/A Doubles; Williamstown’s Strobl and Miller Team Up for Championship

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Winfield’s William Sinclair and Connor Waybright pulled off a stunning comeback in the Class AA/A boys tennis doubles title match against defending champions Austin Bosgraf and Tyler Fenton from Williamstown. After falling behind 5-2 in the second set, Sinclair and Waybright rallied to secure a 6-2, 7-5 victory and claim the state championship at the Charleston Tennis Club.

Sinclair and Waybright’s victory was a redemption of sorts after losing to Bosgraf and Fenton during the team portion of the state tournament. The Winfield duo used their previous match as a learning experience to strategize and ultimately outplay their opponents in the final.

Meanwhile, in the girls doubles final, Winfield’s Claire Strobl and Akhia Miller dominated Chapmanville’s Emma Bryant and Madison Baker with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory. Strobl and Miller’s win was a positive end to the tournament after coming up short in the team competition.

Both pairs of champions showcased their skills and teamwork throughout the tournament, with Sinclair and Waybright focusing on serving to Fenton’s backhand and Strobl and Miller capitalizing on Miller’s powerful serves.

Despite the challenges of playing outdoors and then moving indoors due to rain, the players adapted and delivered impressive performances in the finals. The Class AA/A doubles matches provided thrilling competition and memorable moments for all involved, capping off a successful state tournament for the talented tennis players.
