Winners of the Canadian Screen Awards in Documentary, Factual, Lifestyle, and Reality Categories

The 2024 Canadian Screen Award winners in the Documentary, Factual, Lifestyle, and Reality categories were announced on Thursday afternoon, showcasing the best talent in Canadian television. The event also honored Special Award recipients, including Marilyn Denis, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by her son, Adam Wylde. Brenda Tremblay and director David Lickley were recognized with the Sustainable Production Award for their feature documentary “Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope.”

Marilyn Denis, known for her work on CTV’s The Marilyn Denis Show, was awarded Best Host, Talk Show or Entertainment News, while the show itself won Best Talk Series. John Keffer took home the award for Best Direction in Lifestyle or Information for the episode “Final Farewell.”

Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. The World was the big winner of the night, securing six awards, including Best Host or Presenter, Factual, Reality/Competition for Brooke Lynn Hytes, Brad Goreski, and Traci Melchor. The Prime Video feature documentary “Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe” also received five awards, while Citytv’s Black Community Mixtapes and Crave’s docuseries Thunder Bay were also recognized in multiple categories.

The full list of winners included a diverse range of programs and talent across various genres. From Best Documentary Program to Best Host, Lifestyle, the awards highlighted the excellence and creativity in Canadian television.

Notable winners included “Broken – The Toxic Culture of Canadian Gymnastics” for Best Documentary Program, “Etalk: In Conversation With Jully Black” for Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series, and “Stuff the British Stole” for Best History Documentary Program or Series.

The event also recognized achievements in direction, writing, production design, casting, and sound, showcasing the depth of talent in the Canadian television industry.

Overall, the 2024 Canadian Screen Award winners represented a diverse and talented group of individuals and programs, highlighting the best of Canadian television in the Documentary, Factual, Lifestyle, and Reality categories.
