William & Mary Women’s Tennis Team Advances to CAA Championship Match

ELON, N.C. — The William & Mary women’s tennis team continues to dominate as they secured a spot in the CAA Women’s Tennis Championship match for the ninth consecutive year. The Tribe defeated UNCW with a score of 4-0 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, extending their win streak to an impressive 13 in a row.

In a rematch of last year’s championship match, William & Mary took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Graduate student Mila Mejic and freshman Francesca Davis set the tone with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. The duo of Yu Chen and Emma Fernald clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the top spot.

In singles play, junior Alessandra Anghel, junior Ine Stange, and junior Hedda Gurholt sealed the victory for the Tribe. Anghel, Stange, and Gurholt all secured wins in their respective matches, with Gurholt clinching the overall win at the top spot.

With this win, William & Mary advances to the CAA Championship match where they will face top-seed Delaware. The Tribe will look to secure their third consecutive championship title on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The Blue Hens earned their spot in the finals by defeating Drexel with a score of 4-0. Tennis fans can expect an exciting showdown between William & Mary and Delaware in the championship match.
