An Arizona woman who accused former major league pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault has now been charged with defrauding the baseball player in a shocking turn of events. The indictment, unsealed in Maricopa County Superior Court, charges the woman with fraud and theft by extortion, both felonies, in a scheme that potentially spanned several years.
The woman had previously sued Bauer in December 2022, alleging rape two years prior that resulted in a pregnancy in late 2020. However, Bauer denied the allegations and countersued, claiming that their encounter was consensual and accusing the woman of faking the pregnancy to extort money from him.
Despite never being arrested or charged, Bauer found himself embroiled in a legal battle with the woman. His attorneys revealed that she had made several million-dollar demands against him, leading Bauer to ultimately pay $8,761 for expenses related to the reported pregnancy and its subsequent termination, which the woman later claimed ended in a miscarriage.
The woman is set to be arraigned on the criminal charges next Friday, while Bauer released a video statement asserting his innocence and expressing frustration over the situation. Bauer, who had been trying to revive his major league career after a suspension for violating the league’s policies on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, had most recently played in Japan before signing a deal to pitch in Mexico.
The case continues to unfold as both parties navigate the legal proceedings, with Bauer maintaining his innocence amidst the ongoing controversy.
