Woman who euthanized her dog a year ago now puts him up for adoption

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A heart-wrenching story of a woman who thought she had to euthanize her sick puppy, only to find him up for adoption at the same rescue organization a year later has left many questioning the ethics of the situation.

Kristie Pereira, who adopted a hound mix named Beau from Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation in Maryland, was devastated when her beloved puppy started showing signs of a severe neurological issue. After consulting multiple veterinarians and facing the possibility of costly tests with slim chances of success, Pereira made the difficult decision to have Beau euthanized at a local shelter.

However, during a recent visit to Maryland, Pereira discovered Beau, now named Amos Hart, up for adoption on the rescue’s website. Shocked and confused, she reached out to the shelter and confirmed that Beau had not been euthanized as she had believed. Instead, he had undergone a successful surgery for a liver problem and was declared healthy.

Despite her willingness to pay for the surgery and bring Beau back home, Pereira faced resistance from the rescue organization, who refused to return the dog to her. The rescue defended their decision, stating that they do not re-home owner-surrendered dogs with their former owners.

The situation has sparked outrage and debate over the handling of the case, with many questioning the rescue’s actions and the lack of communication with Pereira. As Beau remains available for adoption, Pereira is left heartbroken and desperate to be reunited with her beloved pet.
