The Michigan Tech Huskies women’s tennis team had a successful final home weekend, sweeping both Davenport and Purdue Northwest. The women’s team defeated Davenport 5-2 on Friday and Purdue Northwest 4-3 on Saturday at Gates Tennis Center. Coach Kristin D’Agostini-Yep praised the women for their performance, stating that they played the best tennis of the conference season so far.
Emily Cojocaru and Chiara Heinz were standout players, both going 4-0 over the weekend. Cojocaru, paired with Caoimhe McDonnell, won both of their doubles matches and also secured victories in singles matches. Heinz and Emily Rose also won both of their doubles contests, with Heinz dominating in singles as well.
On the men’s side, the Panthers and the Pride emerged victorious against the Huskies. Despite the tough weekend for the men’s team, Coach D’Agostini-Yep remains optimistic and looks forward to finishing the conference play strong next weekend.
The Huskies honored their seniors on Saturday, including Artem Sharkota, Eli Pinnoo, Nikolai Prosjanykov, Ricardo Nunez, Grace Eland, and Marina Fernandez. The women’s team currently holds a 4-13 overall record and a 2-3 record in the GLIAC, while the men’s team is 3-14 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC.
Next up, the Huskies will wrap up the regular season with matches against Ferris State on Friday and Grand Valley State on Saturday. With the postseason on the line, both teams are gearing up for a strong finish to the season.
