The Old Dominion Monarchs dominated the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis postseason awards, sweeping all major categories for the 2024 season. Junior Sofia Johnson was named Player of the Year, as well as earning first team doubles and singles honors. Lidiia Rasskouskaia was awarded Player to Watch and Newcomer of the Year, while Ulyana Romanova received Freshman of the Year honors. Head coach Dominic Manilla was recognized as Coach of the Year.
Sofia Johnson, with a record of 19-8 in singles, was praised for her exceptional performance throughout the season, including wins over strong opponents like Ole Miss and Florida State. Lidiia Rasskouskaia, a newcomer to the team, impressed with a 16-1 record in singles and a nine-match winning streak. Ulyana Romanova, a freshman, showcased her talent with a 14-4 record and crucial wins for the team.
Coach Manilla led the Monarchs to a second consecutive undefeated league regular season, highlighting the team’s resilience and determination. The Monarchs have not lost a conference match since 2018 and have maintained a strong presence in national rankings.
The team’s success was celebrated by the entire athletic department at Old Dominion University, with Coach Manilla expressing gratitude for the collective effort that led to their achievements. The Monarchs will now prepare to open Sun Belt Tournament play, aiming to continue their winning streak and solidify their status as a dominant force in women’s collegiate tennis.
