Women’s Tennis Secures 11th MIAA Championship in 12 Seasons

The Hope College women’s tennis team clinched the MIAA regular-season championship with a resounding 9-0 victory over The University of Olivet. This win secured their 11th outright league title in the last 12 seasons, reaffirming their dominance in the conference.

Senior Annika Weeber, a key player for the team, was honored before and after the match. Weeber has been a consistent performer throughout her four-year career, boasting an impressive record in both singles and doubles play. She expressed her joy in watching the team’s growth and will miss the sport dearly after graduation.

In the match, Weeber and junior Miyako Coffey dominated at first doubles, securing an 8-0 victory. Freshmen Madison Wei and Phoebe Walker also impressed with an 8-3 win at second doubles, while freshmen Makenna Crandell and Kamryn Dumas swept their opponents 8-0 at third doubles.

The singles matches were equally impressive, with players like Amanda Lopykinski, Sullivan Moran, and Hope Rhoades delivering commanding victories. The team’s depth and talent were on full display as they swept all six singles matches.

With this win, Hope College looks ahead to the MIAA semifinals against Kalamazoo College on May 1. The team is determined to carry their momentum into the postseason and continue their pursuit of excellence on the court.
