The Old Dominion Monarchs tennis team secured a spot in the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a dominant 4-0 victory over South Alabama. The 66th-ranked Monarchs will now face off against App State in the championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
After claiming the doubles point with wins from the top two pairs, the Monarchs continued their strong performance in singles play. Lidiia Rasskouskaia, Alexandra Viktorovitch, and Kira Matushkina all secured straight-set victories to seal the 4-0 win for Old Dominion.
Head Coach Dominic Manilla expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “There is no where else in the world we would rather be than right here in Rome, Georgia fighting to bring a trophy to the 757 and Monarch Nation.”
The Monarchs will be aiming for their fourth consecutive league crown and second straight Sun Belt title when they take on App State in the finals. The two teams previously met on April 20, with Old Dominion emerging victorious with a 6-1 win.
With their eyes set on the championship, the Old Dominion Monarchs are ready to battle it out on the court and bring home another title to their loyal fans in Monarch Nation. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting and competitive final match on Sunday.
