Wood County to Recognize Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) Week

Wood County will be honoring the Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) Week from May 19-25. The Wood County Commission unanimously passed a proclamation recognizing the week and the valuable contributions of local CEOS organizations.

The CEOS volunteers have a mission to provide education and support to individuals and families in the community. They work in partnership with the West Virginia University Extension Service to fulfill their purpose of education and meet the needs of a diverse society.

Barb Bargeloh, the President of Wood County CEOS, shared that there are currently four clubs in the county with a total of 33 members. The group supports local food pantries and engages in various community projects, including donating supplies to the Women’s Care Center.

One of their notable projects involves making Boo-Boo bears for children in emergency rooms and nursing homes. In 2023, the group collectively provided around 10,000 hours of volunteer service.

The Wood County Commissioners expressed their appreciation for the CEOS group and their dedication to the community. They also approved bids for installing lights and equipment on sheriff department vehicles and allocated funds to cover expiring federal funding for airport security.

Additionally, a clerical error from 1973 regarding land ownership near the airport was rectified, and preparations were made for the upcoming Kids STEM Day event at the airport. The event aims to introduce children to aviation careers and provide hands-on learning experiences.

Overall, the CEOS Week proclamation highlights the important work done by volunteers in Wood County and emphasizes the value of community service and education.
