World Central Kitchen Resumes Operations in Gaza After Tragic Loss

World Central Kitchen, the aid group founded by chef José Andrés, has announced that it is resuming operations in Gaza less than a month after seven of its staff members were killed in Israeli airstrikes. CEO Erin Gore stated, “The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. We are restarting our operation with the same energy, dignity, and focus on feeding as many people as possible.”

The April 1 strikes in Gaza drew international criticism towards Israel’s military, which later admitted to serious violations of military operating procedures. As a result, World Central Kitchen had paused its operations in the region. However, with the situation in Gaza worsening and reports of famine emerging, the aid group is determined to continue its mission of providing meals to those in need.

Gore mentioned that they have distributed over 43 million meals so far and are prepared to deliver millions more. The group has 276 trucks with nearly 8 million meals ready to enter Gaza through various routes. They are also finalizing the construction of a new kitchen in honor of one of the staff members who lost their lives in the airstrikes.

Despite the challenges, World Central Kitchen remains committed to its mission of providing food aid to the people of Gaza. The group’s resilience and determination in the face of tragedy serve as a beacon of hope in a region plagued by conflict and suffering.
