Hundreds of people gathered in Ystrad Mynach to welcome home Wales’ first female world champion boxer, Lauren Price, after her historic win at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena. The streets were packed with friends and well-wishers as Price arrived back in her hometown to a hero’s welcome.

Price, who became the country’s 14th world champion, expressed her desire to continue creating a legacy for Wales. The excitement and pride were palpable as Price’s grandmother, Linda Jones, shared her joy over the victory, saying she was “over the moon” and that Price deserved every minute of her glory.

Fans who had witnessed the fight also shared their enthusiasm, with one friend, Ffion Perry, describing the atmosphere as “absolutely incredible.” Another friend, Jess Jenkins, praised Price for showing Welsh people how it’s done and expressed pride in her accomplishment.

Price, who has a history of success in various sports, including kickboxing and football, described her fight against Jessica McCaskill as one of the best nights of her career. She walked out to the song “Yma O Hyd” by Dafydd Iwan, soaking in the electric atmosphere created by Welsh fans singing along.

Looking ahead, Price expressed confidence in her future, stating that she believes there are many more big fights to come. She emphasized her excitement for the future of Welsh boxing and the opportunities that lie ahead. The overwhelming support and reception from her community have only fueled her determination to continue making her mark in the boxing world.
