US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken also extended his sincere congratulations to Wong, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the US-Singapore strategic partnership. He expressed gratitude towards outgoing Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for his contributions over the past two decades.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also sent a letter of congratulations to Wong, acknowledging his new role as prime minister of Singapore.
Wong, 51, succeeds Lee Hsien Loong, who led the nation for nearly 20 years. In his maiden speech, Wong pledged to strengthen partnerships both near and far while advancing Singapore’s interests in the face of increasing rivalry and tension on the international stage.
