Despite two major cases involving former President Donald Trump falling on the same day, the ratings for the three major network evening news broadcasts remained stagnant during the week of April 22.
ABC News’ World News Tonight with David Muir continued its dominance as the most-watched broadcast, with 7.522 million total viewers and 1.040 million viewers in the Adults 25-54 demo. This marked the 281st week out of 282 that WNT has been the most-watched broadcast in total viewers and the 209th week out of the last 213 in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt held onto the No. 2 spot with 5.928 million total viewers and 776,000 viewers in the demo. CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell finished third with 4.419 million total viewers and 606,000 in the demo.
Despite the lack of movement in the ratings, WNT was the only evening newscast to see a gain in viewership compared to the previous week. However, all three broadcasts saw declines when compared to the same week in 2023.
The Nielsen live-plus-same-day averages for the week of April 22, 2024, showed ABC leading in both total viewers and the demo, followed by NBC and CBS. The competition remains fierce among the three major network evening news broadcasts as they strive to capture and retain viewers in an ever-evolving media landscape.
