ABC World News Tonight with David Muir has once again solidified its position as America’s most-watched program across all broadcast and cable channels. The week of May 20 saw the evening newscast not only maintain its lead but also experience week-to-week gains in both total viewers and the key demographic of Adults 25-54.

World News Tonight averaged 7.236 million total viewers, marking a 1% increase from the previous week. In the coveted Adults 25-54 demo, the program inched closer to the million viewers mark with 996,000 viewers, also up by 1%. Despite these gains, when compared to the same week in 2023, the newscast saw a slight decline in both total viewers and the demo.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell also saw week-to-week demo growth, with Nightly News earning second place in total viewers and the demo. Nightly News averaged 5.723 million viewers and 807,000 viewers in the demo, down by 1% in total viewers but up by 3% in the demo compared to the previous week.

CBS Evening News finished third with 4.235 million total viewers and 632,000 A25-54 viewers, experiencing a dip of 1% in total viewers and a bump of 3% in the demo. Despite these fluctuations, all three newscasts continue to attract a significant viewership, with World News Tonight maintaining its lead in both total viewers and the demo for the week of May 20.
