WTCC Predicts Significant Growth for Oman’s Tourism Industry in 2024

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has released its 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR), painting a promising picture for Oman’s Travel & Tourism sector. The report indicates that the industry is poised for a remarkable recovery and is expected to reach new heights this year.

According to the WTTC, Oman’s Travel & Tourism sector is projected to contribute over OMR 3.3 billion to the country’s GDP in 2024, representing 7.6 percent of the total economy. Additionally, the sector is anticipated to create over 206,000 jobs nationwide, with one in every fourteen individuals working within this industry.

Domestic visitor spending is expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2024, reaching OMR 1.5 billion and exceeding the 2019 figure by approximately eight percent. While international visitor spending may fall short of 2019 levels, it is projected to continue growing throughout the year.

Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, expressed optimism about Oman’s Travel & Tourism sector, highlighting the government’s strong support for the industry and its potential for economic growth and job creation.

Looking ahead to 2034, the WTTC forecasts even more growth for Oman’s tourism sector, with an annual GDP contribution expected to increase to OMR 5.4 billion and over 265,600 jobs to be created nationwide. The Middle Eastern Travel and Tourism sector as a whole also experienced significant growth in 2024, with employment rising to nearly 7.75 million and international spending surging by 50 percent.
