The 37th Annual Partners in Education Luncheon held at West Virginia University at Parkersburg was a celebration of partnerships between local businesses and schools in Wood County. The event featured a game of Heads and Tails, where participants had to make choices about their actions, symbolizing the choices they make in school and in life.

Jill Parsons, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley, emphasized the importance of making positive choices every day. The luncheon highlighted the commitment of businesses to education and academics, with 11 new partnerships announced and 24 more waiting to sign up.

Bert Webb, coordinator of the Partner In Education program, expressed his amazement at the growing interest in the program, noting that other counties typically only see a few new partnerships each year. The event showcased the strong support for education in the community and the dedication of businesses to giving back.

Partnerships are intended to be long-term relationships where businesses volunteer time and resources to local schools. Activities include judging science fairs, career mentoring, and other engagement opportunities. Wood County Schools Superintendent Christie Willis emphasized the importance of these partnerships in helping the district achieve its goal of becoming the best in the state.

Businesses interested in becoming partners can contact the chamber for more information. The event highlighted the positive impact of collaboration between businesses and schools in supporting student success and community development.
