Iron Mountain Boys Tennis Falls to West Iron County in Close Match

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain boys tennis team faced off against West Iron County on Monday in a closely contested match that ended with a 5-3 victory for the Wykons.

Despite a strong effort from the Mountaineers, West Iron County managed to secure wins in three out of the four doubles matches. The Wykons dominated the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 doubles flights, all in straight sets. Notable victories came from the No. 2 doubles team of Jackson Strom and Elijah Oberlin, as well as the No. 3 duo of Keenan Dobson-Donati and Jackson Secord.

In addition to their doubles success, West Iron County also claimed victories in two singles matches. Caleb Strom and Zander Birmingham secured wins over their Iron Mountain opponents.

The Mountaineers, however, did not go down without a fight. They managed to secure wins in the No. 3 singles, No. 4 singles, and No. 1 doubles matches. Coach Keith Huotari praised his team’s effort, noting that every point counts in a match and emphasizing the importance of staying focused.

Despite the loss, Iron Mountain remains determined as they look ahead to upcoming matches against Ishpeming and the Kingsford Invitational. With a busy week ahead, the team is focused on regrouping and putting forth their best effort in the remaining events.

Overall, the match against West Iron County showcased the talent and determination of both teams, setting the stage for an exciting season of high school tennis in the region.
