X, the popular social media platform, is introducing a new feature called Stories that utilizes Grok AI to provide a condensed version of news articles on the platform. This feature is exclusively available for premium subscribers, offering them a convenient way to stay updated on trending stories.
The announcement was made by the official X engineering team through their X handle @XEng. Premium subscribers will now see a summary of posts related to each trending story under the ‘For You’ tab in the ‘Explore’ section of the platform. This feature aims to streamline the news consumption process for users and keep them informed about the latest happenings.
When users tap on a story, instead of displaying the full text from the article, the summary is generated based on the conversations and interactions happening on the platform. However, X has issued a cautionary note stating that Grok AI, like most AI models, may have inaccuracies or “hallucinations.” Users are advised to verify the information provided by the AI-generated summaries.
While the concept of summarizing news is not new, X’s approach with Stories sets it apart from other platforms. Twitter, under Jack Dorsey, previously offered a similar feature but relied on manual curation rather than AI technology. X’s continuous efforts to enhance user experience include the recent introduction of a Google Meet-like conferencing solution and the expansion of the Community Notes feature to India.
With the launch of Stories powered by Grok AI, X is taking a step towards making news consumption more efficient and engaging for its premium subscribers.
