YMCA to open new location in downtown South Bend – Leader Publications

The YMCA of Greater Michiana is set to open a new location in downtown South Bend, bringing its mission and community resources to the heart of the city. The organization has announced plans to lease the third and fourth floors of 111 W. Jefferson Blvd. from the City of South Bend, pending approval from the city’s Redevelopment Commission.

The new Downtown South Bend YMCA will operate out of the current Beacon Health and Fitness South Bend space, rent-free through December 31, 2032. In exchange, the YMCA will transfer its property on Northside Blvd. to the city for future redevelopment. Operations are expected to begin this summer, with Beacon Health & Fitness South Bend members using the facility until May 31.

City officials and YMCA representatives are excited about the partnership and the opportunities it will bring to the community. Mayor James Mueller expressed gratitude for the YMCA’s commitment to expanding operations in South Bend and highlighted the benefits the new facility will bring to the city.

During the transition period, YMCA members will have access to the O’Brien Center and other facilities in the region. Beacon Health & Fitness is donating equipment and supplies to the new YMCA location, ensuring a smooth transition for members.

The Downtown South Bend YMCA will offer a wide range of amenities, including fitness equipment, courts, pools, classes, and more. Members of Beacon Health & Fitness South Bend will receive exclusive invitations to join the YMCA, and City of South Bend employees will be eligible for discounted memberships.
