Reading Time: < 1 minute

A tragic explosion rocked downtown Youngstown, Ohio, on Tuesday afternoon, claiming the life of a bank employee and injuring several others. The blast, which occurred at around 2:45 p.m., caused extensive damage to the ground floor of Realty Tower, a 13-story building that houses a Chase Bank branch and apartments on upper floors.

Authorities initially suspected natural gas as the cause of the explosion, but Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finley later stated that the exact reason is still under investigation. The 27-year-old bank employee who lost his life was last seen inside the building just before the blast, according to the Youngstown Police Department.

In a press conference, Chief Finley revealed that firefighters rescued multiple individuals and ensured the building was clear of any additional victims. JPMorgan Chase expressed condolences for the loss of their colleague and pledged to cooperate with local officials in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Seven injured individuals were transported to Mercy Health Hospital in Youngstown, with one reported to be in critical condition. The explosion sent shockwaves through the city of about 60,000 residents, leaving debris scattered across the sidewalk and prompting a swift response from emergency services.

As the investigation into the cause of the explosion continues, the community mourns the loss of life and prays for the swift recovery of those injured in the devastating incident.
