Youngstown State University (YSU) is gearing up for the 2024 football season with a focus on maintaining their strong defensive identity. Despite significant losses on the depth chart, the Penguins are determined to continue their dominance on the defensive side of the ball.

Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach John Haneline emphasized the importance of stopping the run game, citing it as a key factor in winning games. With only one returning starter from last season’s finale, cornerback Jaylen Castleberry, YSU is looking to retool and rebuild their defense with a mix of experienced players and newcomers.
