Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has taken a significant step towards empowering women entrepreneurs in the state by launching a N250 million empowerment scheme. The scheme aims to benefit 5,200 women across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
Each beneficiary is set to receive N50,000 monthly to support their small-scale businesses, such as awara, gireba, koko da kosai, local juices, and kuli-kuli. This initiative is designed to uplift the economic status of women and alleviate the burdens they carry in their families.
The program is being coordinated by the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC) and targets 100 women from each of the 36 rural LGAs and 200 women from the 8 metropolitan LGAs. Governor Yusuf emphasized that this initiative is a way of giving back to women for their overwhelming support during the 2023 elections.
During the launch of the scheme, Governor Yusuf highlighted his commitment to making women self-reliant and supporting their overall well-being. He also mentioned that the State Government has renovated and upgraded hospitals, particularly maternity and pediatric units, to improve healthcare for women and children.
Beneficiaries of the grant have expressed gratitude and optimism about the impact of this initiative on their businesses and the economy of Kano State. Rabbi Musa from Doguwa LGA and Habiba Abubakar from Tudun Wada LGA praised the governor for his commitment to empowering women and enhancing small-scale businesses at the grassroots level. This empowerment scheme is expected to bring about positive changes in the lives of women entrepreneurs in Kano State.
