Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude for the passage of a military aid bill by the U.S. House of Representatives, stating that the assistance would save lives and help bring an end to the war with Russia. The bill, totaling $60.84 billion, includes $23 billion to replenish U.S. weapons, stocks, and facilities for Ukraine.
Zelenskiy praised the decision by the House, thanking both parties and Speaker Mike Johnson for keeping history on the right track. He emphasized that the aid would prevent the war from expanding, save thousands of lives, and strengthen both nations.
In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy highlighted the impact the assistance would have on soldiers on the front lines and commended American leadership for upholding a rules-based international order. He vowed to use American support to bring a just end to the war, stating that Putin must lose.
The U.S. Senate is expected to approve the bills next week, passing them on to President Joe Biden for signing. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also expressed gratitude for the bill, noting that it demonstrated U.S. leadership and resolve in promoting peace and security. He highlighted provisions that would allow the U.S. to confiscate Russian assets and hand them over to Ukraine for rebuilding post-war.
The passage of the bill signifies a significant step in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with both leaders hopeful for a positive outcome with the support of the United States.
