Zeltinger has been in the upholstery business for more than 40 years

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Neil Zeltinger, the owner of Designs & Reupholstery by Neil, has been quietly running his upholstery business in Downtown for the past 45 years. Despite minimal advertising and a low-key shop sign, Zeltinger has never been short of work. Specializing in restoring and updating vintage and antique furniture, Zeltinger’s skillset has made him a well-known secret among area residents.

Located in the basement of a building owned by his family for generations, Zeltinger’s workshop is filled with tools, supplies, and a collection of memorabilia from other repair shops. Upstairs, the first floor is stacked with antique and vintage furniture awaiting restoration, along with various other items Zeltinger has collected over the years.

As Zeltinger approaches retirement, he jokes about his habit of picking up furniture from the side of the road and his reluctance to throw anything away. Despite his plans to retire, Zeltinger remains energetic and animated, always ready with a joke or humorous anecdote for his customers.

Reflecting on his career, Zeltinger expresses gratitude for his loyal customers and regrets not finding someone to take over his business. As Downtown Kenosha evolves, Zeltinger’s family building continues to thrive, with new businesses like Blue House Books finding success in the area.

Zeltinger’s dedication to his craft and his impact on the local community make him a beloved figure in Kenosha, with businesses like Blue House Books attributing their success to his help and care over the years. Despite his impending retirement, Zeltinger’s legacy in the community is sure to endure.
