Redwood High freshman Julian Zhang is making a big impact on the tennis court, leading the Giants to victory in the North Coast Section Division I first round. Ranked No. 2 in Northern California and No. 22 in the nation for 14-and-under boys, Zhang showcased his skills by defeating Heritage of Brentwood 6-1.
Zhang’s dominating performance, including a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Arnav Yashlaha, has propelled the Giants to the next round where they will face Foothill. The talented freshman is part of a strong group of newcomers at Redwood, including Alejandro Puentes, Cal Fazal, and Will Greenwald.
Coach Craig Flax is thrilled with the team’s progress, praising the culture and camaraderie among the players. Greenwald, who played a key role in the recent victory, highlighted the team’s chemistry and shared history, emphasizing their potential for future success.
High school tennis has provided Zhang with a platform to showcase his skills and experiment with new techniques. His decision to prioritize a junior tournament over the MCAL singles event reflects his commitment to the sport and his team.
With the support of his coach and teammates, Zhang is thriving in the high school tennis environment, honing his game and enjoying the competitive atmosphere. As he looks ahead to future matches, Zhang is determined to continue making a positive impact on the court and lead the Giants to further success.
